The Bible says in Romans 8:37, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us“. I’ve heard a couple of ministers give an explanation of this phrase as a fighter going through a tough fight, winning, getting the purse, and being declared the “conqueror”. He then goes home to his wife, gives her the money, and she is “more than a conqueror” because she got the prize and didn’t have to fight for it. Isn’t that what Jesus did for us?
This day, while listening to preaching as I traveled, I got another, “revelation from the road” about this. An army goes into battle, fights valiantly, defeats the enemy, and watches them run off in defeat. They are conquerors. But to be more than conquerors, they would run after the defeated foe, embarrass them in front of their own people, and gather up the spoils of victory.
This is what we need to do to the devil and his crew when we use the Word of God against him. Not only defeat him but rub his face in it and make a show of him in front of anyone who will watch. Didn’t Jesus do that? “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Colossians 2:15“. That, my friends, is more than a conqueror!
