What Do YOU Have?

June 10, 2008

Given April 27, 2008

I look at people around me that have a lot and sometimes get a little jealous.  Then I have to repent because the Lord has really blessed me and my family too.  Some are of the belief that you have to have something great to do something spectacular for God.  That’s not the case.  Look at these three examples:

Moses and his rod.  Moses was sort of whining to God saying, “What if they won’t listen to me?”  “Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” A staff, he replied. Exodus 4:2.”  All Moses had was a stick and God used it for a great purpose.

The boy with the fishes and loaves.  Jesus was teaching in a big field and it was getting to be supper time.  He asked His disciples, “Where are we going to get enough food to feed this crowd?”  Andrew said, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, John 6:9“.  One little boy offered his lunch and Jesus fed 5000 men and their families.

David’s smooth stones.  Teenager  David went out to face a giant of a man and along the way, “…chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:40“.  David slung one of those stones and God guided it to hit its mark.

As an African pastor who comes to our church occasionally says, “Are you getting the understanding?”  It doesn’t really matter what you have, what matters is will you give it to God and let Him use it to His glory?  A stick, a lunch, a rock…do you have anything like that?
