There are some things going on at the place where I work that have had me concerned.
I retired from public education in June of 2007 after 34 years of service but was called back in December of that year to be the interim director of a job training program that is part of the school system. Three to six months they told me…but it will be two years soon and I’m planning things that might take a few more years to come to fruition. But, I truly believe God has devinely placed me where I am and I’ll be there until the job is done.
Even though I’m on assignment for God at work, it doesn’t mean everything will go smoothly. The reason I’m there is because a previous director made some questionable financial decisions and was dismissed so there is some “cleaning up” to do. Durning this process, other things have come out and some strife among the staff adds to the concern, not to mention the economic situation we all are dealing with. Thus the occasion to worry.
So, as these things were heavy on my mind this day, and knowing worry is a bad thing, I asked God, “Why am I worrying?” Immediately, these thoughts came into my mind: “Because you don’t really believe I’m with you.” (Hebrews 13:5), “You haven’t really cast your cares on Me.” (1 Peter 5:7), “You don’t really believe I’ll meet all your needs.” (Phillipians 4:19). And God didn’t stop there. He kept reminding me of what He had previously spoken to me time and time again through His Word: “You’ve let your heart be troubled and afraid.” (John 14:27), “You’re leaning on your OWN understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5-6), “You’re walking by sight and not by faith.” (2 Corinthians 5:7), “You don’t really believe My grace is sufficient.” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Wow! I got the message and several good scriptural reminders that I can say out loud when fear and doubt try to get in my mind. Thank you God!
And one other thing He reminded me of; In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus said to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” (Matthew 6:10). I am reminded that no matter how things look or feel, no matter how long it’s taking, no matter how things seem to me, I need to get out of the way and let His Will be done! “Worry…get outta here in the Name of Jesus!” Amen! I hope you are encouraged by these words as well.

This post is awesome. We are coming upon a season where the avergae person is worried about their financies, buying gifts for the kids and overextending themselves so by the new year, they are in debt. As a young mother with a husband who is unemployed, I now about worry, but I also know that God has been taking good care of me and my family. I make sure that I always communicate with God about how thankful I am for his provision. This is not to say that I do not get sad about my situation sometimes, but I am always aware that God’s love for me means more than any material item that I will ever receive.
