“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV).
I love the spring time of the year. I also love gardening and long to get out in God’s creation and work the land just as soon as the weather will allow. In early March, the crocuses are already poking their heads above the soil in my part of Virginia and, finally, the snow is melting.
I have learned over many springs and summers that there are spiritual lessons to be learned in the garden. You can walk through the garden or your yard this time of year and see new life beginning to spring up everywhere. It’s all in God’s plan for His creation to go through the cycles of the seasons. We go through seasons in our lives as well; birth and newness, life and fruitfulness, dying out, then hibernation and rest, until the process starts all over again. It’s God’s plan. However, our lives do not necessarily follow the same pattern nature does; we may stay in a season for a long time or a short time. But each season has its purpose and God WILL bring us to the next one when the time is right. I’ve found that if I’m in a time of dying out or a time of rest, I just need to, “fret not”, as Jesus would say, learn from Him during this time and look to the future. Besides, even when there’s six inches of snow on the ground, all things are becoming new.
