I knew a lady who came to me to ask a question about some emails she had been receiving. They were from a nice Christian lady whose husband had been illegally detained in a foreign country and she needed financial help from another Christian to get him out. As soon as I heard this, I said, “You didn’t send her any money did you?” Regretfully she had. In three or four transactions, she had wired over $1200 to this “Christian” lady. She had been scammed.
We think we would never fall prey to a scam like that. We can recognize a scam when someone calls and says all you have to do to get a fortune is to give the caller your Social Security and bank account number. Yeah right! Well let me remind you of a scam that we have ALL fallen for. Every day, Satan and his cohorts are attempting to scam you, it’s called temptation. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;” (John 10:10). Satan comes with his lies, deceptions, and deals that sound or look really good; the big flashing billboard off the exit from the road of righteousness is tempting. We need to hang up, delete the email or say NO, I’m not going there! It’s all our choice, Satan can’t force us to be scammed. “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8). He’s looking for some clueless, vulnerable person to scam but if we resist him, he’ll run off, (James 4:7).
So how do we get to the place where we can recognize the devil’s scams? READ YOUR BIBLE! When Satan tried to scam Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus said three times, “It is written”. The devil couldn’t deal with that and he left. (See Matthew 4). PRAY. Jesus did this often, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16). And let the Holy Spirit in you speak to you about what you’ve read and prayed.
Don’t be scammed. Read your Bible, pray, and listen then send the devil packing when he comes with his temptations. But, if you’re not saved, you’re running with Satan and his crowd and you have been scammed to hell. Say, “No more!”, turn around, (repent), and get on the right road. Do it today.
