Think about it, how many voices do we hear every day? Some of those voices impart good information to us, some not. Some voices we love to hear, others we could do without. Some we ignore, some we seek out. Many voices in a crowd all blend together so we cannot understand any of them. Sometimes…silence is wonderful. What about the voice of God?
One of the printed prayers I read in my morning devotion says, “I pray for your Voice to direct my life.” But am I hearing that Voice? Is God’s Voice speaking to me? If I’m not hearing His Voice, what’s drowning it out? What about you? God spoke to the prophet Elijah in, “a still small voice”, (1 Kings 19:12), so where can we hear that “still small voice”? I suggest a daily quiet time with God is the best place. Do we have an example of anyone doing this? “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35). Jesus did this all the time. He valued the quiet time with His Father to talk and I’m sure it wasn’t a one-way thing, it was a two-way conversation.
A quiet place. I’m pretty sure God isn’t going to holler at us to, “Turn off that TV and listen to me!” Does God have some good information to give us? Oh, for sure! I’ve noticed that most of the time, when God gives me these “revelations” that I pass on, it’s when I’m alone or a time when it’s quiet.
But understand this, there is another voice trying to get our attention; that is the voice of the devil. We’ve all heard that voice too. So how do we know the difference? We’ve got to spend quiet time with God and read His Word. “the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” (John 10:3-4).
This week let’s think about and listen to The Voice. It has some unimaginable things to reveal to us. Father, I’m listening…
