What If?

April 26, 2020April 26, 2020

The Bible is full of heroes, ordinary people, scoundrels and kings, all who had a part in shaping history. There are lots of things that could have happened differently in Biblical history that would have drastically changed things for us. As I thought about this, I came up with several people that stood out to me. What if?

What if Adam had told Eve, “Don’t touch that apple!”

What if Noah had said, “Wow, that’s a big boat. Me and the boys can’t do that.”

What if Abraham had said, “Sarah and I are too old, no kids for us.”

What if Joseph had said, “Well, Potiphar’s wife is pretty good looking.”

What if Moses had said, “We can’t cross that sea, we’re going back to Egypt.”

What if Joshua had said, “Six times around this city is too much, we’re only going five.”

What if Peter had said, “I can’t leave my business, get somebody else.”

What if Paul had said, “They won’t believe me, look at who I’ve been.”

And, what if Jesus had said, “Father, it’s too hard, I can’t do this.”

But, all these people, and many more, did what they were called to do and, as they say, the rest is history. We have benefited from the obedience of these people. Like us, sometimes they faltered, except Jesus, but remained true to their calling and God blessed them, and through them, we are blessed.

We might think, it would be terrible if those folks really did say what is stated in the “what if” statements above. How awful that they could have dismissed the will of God and gone their own way. But…

What if we say, “Oh, I don’t believe all that, I’ve got my own plan?” Or…

“God, I can handle this by myself?” Or…

“It’s just a little bit, it won’t hurt?” Or…

What if, on Judgement Day, someone in the “other line” hollers at you and says, “Why didn’t you tell me!?!” So, what if you tell them now?

What if?
