Worship
“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.” (Psalm 100:1)
For the last three weeks, on Wednesday night, we have been hearing about worship. Pastor Wayne has taught on what worship is, different ways to worship, that we are the priests now, and how God responds to our worship. These have been some fascinating messages and the praise and worship time at the beginning have been different. Two revelations I received during these times; I want to share with you.
The first relates to how we should worship. We worship with words, music, emotion, and actions but God showed me something deeper. Jesus was our sacrifice so we should offer our bodies, “as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1). Another translation says, “our reasonable act of worship”. We are to come before God repentant, asking forgiveness, and cleansed so we will be holy and acceptable to Him. Then, we give Him all our worship, however we do it, it is not for show or recognition, but what is expected and spiritual. We offer ourselves! That’s not to be far-fetched or special but what God reasonably expects of us. “for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”, (John 4:23). True worshippers.
The second is how God responds. The Word says, He inhabits the praises of His people, (Psalm 22:3). When we praise and worship, He is with us. Actually, He is ALWAYS with us but it can be special when we worship. During worship time a couple of weeks ago, I could envision our praises going up to God and then Him moving into or inhabiting our praises. But then, with my eyes closed, I could almost feel a presence beside me. In my imagination, I turned and saw someone with a long, light colored, robe and sandals standing there beside me. I recognized him as Jesus who was standing there looking down at me with a big smile on His face. I knew He not only inhabited my praises above but was right there with me! Wow, tear time!
As Pastor Wayne preached, God is there when we worship, as always, but sometimes He will “manifest His presence”. He did so in the desert with fire and a cloud, in Elijah’s confrontation with the prophets of Baal and in the Upper Room. May we worship in Spirit and truth and “see” God!
