“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Too many times, we don’t look forward to the harvest but focus on the “dead” seed in the ground. Things are going to happen in this world that we don’t like, “In this world you will have trouble.” (John 16:33), but…there’s a harvest coming.
Think about this: Jesus wept for His friend Lazarus, (John 11:35), but He knew about the harvest. Jesus wept for Jerusalem, (Luke 19:41), but He knew that what He was going to do would offer them salvation…and us too. Jesus, as a man, cried in the Garden of Gethsemane but ultimately He looked forward to the Harvest; “who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross,” (Hebrews 12:2). What are we weeping over? There’s a harvest coming.
Let’s be reminded that, no matter what we’re going through, there is a harvest in our future. We don’t know what, how or when but, if we are with Jesus, it’s His plan and it’s going to be good. And, we should be giving Him thanks in all circumstances. I remember a time when my mother was in a nursing home. I’d always thank God while walking back to my car after a visit, for how good she was doing. But one day, she was not doing well and I prayed, “God, I’ve given You control over my Mom’s health, but, today, she’s not doing good. What’s going on?” I then heard in my Spirit, “Son, if you’ve given me full control, you should thank Me on the bad days just like you do on the good days. I’m in control. ” Oh Wow! I had to repent and thank God no matter what things looked like. He had a harvest planned. Right after that, God moved my mother to another facility that was fantastic…part of the harvest. Thank You God!
So, what are we going to do now? Worry, whine and cry because the seed is buried, out of sight, in the ground. Or are we going to take a deep breath, trust God, thank Him and, by faith, look forward to His harvest. We may not understand His plan or His timing but…the Harvest is coming!
