“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Sometimes, maybe many times, we’re confronted with a situation where we need to, by faith, step out and do the thing we feel in our Spirit God wants us to do. But, as always, the enemy will give us numerous reasons to NOT step out. He doesn’t want us to progress.” It will hurt. You can’t do this. You’re afraid. It won’t work. That’s not God speaking. It’ll be OK to stay here.” Have you heard any of these lies before?
Let’s look at some Bible examples of those who “stepped out”. David, in 1 Samuel 17. He couldn’t believe God’s army and his brothers were cowering at the threats of Goliath. So, in the power of God who was with him, David “stepped out”. As we say, “The rest is history.” Then there was Peter, the brash, impulsive fisherman who, in Matthew 14:29, “stepped out” of the boat in response to Jesus’ command, “Come.” He was OK for awhile but was confronted with water and waves until Jesus saved him. “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13). Jesus is always there. Then…there was Jesus. He was with the Father in Heaven and, when asked by God, He “stepped out” of Glory to come to earth to save us. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14). What a sacrifice He made. Step out. What about us? Have we been asked or commanded to step out? Jesus gave the Great Commission to His disciples, “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15). Who are His disciples today? Folks, it’s us! The command is for us. We are to “step out” and share the Good News with those around us. We’re not all called to be preachers but we are called to step out and shine our light. ”Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). Are we ready? When we hear the call…STEP OUT.
