“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
We can experience God’s Word through reading the Bible, through anointed preaching and by inspiration from the Holy Spirit in us. To live our best lives and fulfill the purpose for which God created us, we must know and follow God’s Word. I read recently that there are over 7000 promises of God in the Bible. It’s good to know what they are and, by faith, stand on those promises. At different times and seasons in our lives, we have a choice to stand on a promise or believe the lies of the devil. Jesus knew all those promises and told the devil, “It is written!” (Matthew 4:4), and Jesus voiced many of God’s promises himself…He was God.
Some of those promises are challenging to believe when we’re in a crisis but they are real and we must stand strong and believe for God’s will, His purpose and His timing. In Mark 4:35, Jesus told his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” He didn’t say, “We’re going to the other side unless a storm comes up.” No, He knew what was going to happen and what He could do. When a terrible storm cam up, He asked his guys, “Do you still have no faith? (Vs. 40). Jesus took care of the storm and they went to the other side. Believe His Words.
Then there was Abraham. God told him, “You will be the father of many nations.” (Genesis 17:4). Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah, his wife, was 90 and they had no kids. How could this happen? God’s Word is true…it happened. Then, after Abraham’s son Isaac was born, God tested Abraham and told him to go sacrifice him as a burnt offering, (Genesis 22:2). Abraham obeyed because God had promised he would be the father of many nations. He believed God’s Word and Isaac was saved.
What has God promised us? “You are my child.” (2 Corinthians 6:18), “I will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5), “I sent My Word to heal you.” (Psalm 107:20), “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31), “You shall be my witnesses.” (Acts 1:8), “And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” (Psalm 50:15). There are 6,994 more promises for us. Read them, believe them, and live them. Be blessed.

Mary Sayler says
Amen! Thank you for his, Bill. Your post reminded me of the time people asked Jesus about doing the work of God, and He said, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent,” John 6:29.
Believe! That IS our work: i.e., believing the promises of God. Believing God means what He says. And, according to Genesis 3, NOT believing is what started all the problems of the world in the first place.
Lord, help our unbelief!
