“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
This is a common greeting when two people meet. I get that question almost every time I encounter someone. Most people really want to know how I’m doing because they know I’ve been going through cancer treatments but some just use it as a greeting. My usual answer is, “I’m blessed!” So, I think the Lord wants us to really think about how we’re doing? Everyone has something going on in their lives. I’ve heard it said, “We’re either in a trial, coming out of a trial or going into one.” So our attitude about it will direct our answer. If we trust God and His Word, our answer should reflect our faith. Our answer for, “How ya doin’?” should be based on God’s Word. But, we have to know His Word to respond.
The enemy will try to put all kinds of thoughts in our minds telling us how bad we’re doing but we have the “Sword of the Spirit”, (Ephesians 6:17), which is the Word of God at our disposal. We’ve got to know scripture and believe it to tell how we are. For example, our response to the enemy when we’re sick could be: “By the stripes of Jesus, I’m healed.” (Isaiah 53:5). “God is the one who heals.” (Exodus 15:26). “God sent His Word to heal me and His Word will not return void but will accomplish what He sent it to do!” (Isaiah 55:11). Our simple response to people who ask could be, “I’m healed, I’m getting better, I’m blessed.” Our words are powerful, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,” (Hebrews 4:12).
We can find scripture to declare when we need comfort, wisdom, deliverance, peace and many other “trials” we may be in. Look them up, learn them and speak them.
What would Daniel have said when he was in the lion’s den and asked, “How ya doin”? What about Joseph when he was in the pit, Potiphar’s house, or the prison. God was with him, what would he say? And what about Mary when she was single and pregnant with Jesus? “Let it be with me according to your word. (Luke 1:38). So, how is it with us? What’s your answer?
