”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7-7)
We all worry from time to time. Hopefully, it’s not a lifestyle. Worry is a form of fear but I read that the term “fear not” is in the Bible 365 times! What does that tell us? Worry and fear are tactics of the enemy to distract us and they indicate that we’re not in the place we need to be with God’s promises, power, presence and praise. John Wesley said, “I would no more worry than I would curse or swear.” So, how do we attack the issue of worry? It is a battle.
Might I suggest we use prayer, promises and perseverance? Prayer is the answer to most everything in our lives. We can go to the Creator of the universe and talk to Him at any time. The devil can’t stand it when we’re there and backs off. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 tells us to, “Pray without ceasing”. This means to have our minds always on the things of God, to be in constant communication with him. He’s always with us, (Deuteronomy 13:8). The Promises of God are, “Yes and Amen…through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:20). God has made more than 7,400 promises to us in His Word but we must know those related to our source of worry, and speak them. There is a promise for your worry. And then, Perseverance. “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”(Hebrews 10:36). Sometimes we have to wait or be patient while God is answering our prayers. But, “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7). Remember, worry and fear are attacks from the enemy and the Peace of God will “guard our hearts and minds”. And, I will add another weapon, Praise. The devil can’t stand it when we praise. In the midst of worry and fear…praise God! Go read my blog post, “Praise Beside the Path” at https://roadrevelations.org/2010/09/praise-beside-the-path/ for a way to look at this. “So do not worry,” (Matthew 6:31).

Thanks, Bill, for another inspired post. Worry has been my default as long as I can remember, but it’s become the very thing that keeps me praying about anything, everything, and everyone with whom God puts me in contact.
