What do we think about when we hear or see these words, “our sins”? Things we’ve done or said in the past, even years ago? Let’s look at this topic.
Romans 12:1 says, “I offer my body, a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable which is my reasonable act of worship.” When we pray and “give ourselves” to God, do we understand what we’re saying? In the Old Testament, burnt offerings were to be “without blemish”, they couldn’t offer a sick or crippled animal as a sacrifice. (Leviticus 22:19). So, is it possible for us to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice without blemish, without sin? We all have sinned, (Romans 3:23), so where does that leave us? You may be thinking of a past sin in your life right now. There is Good News.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Old things are gone, everything is new. If you’re a Christian, your sins have been forgiven by the sacrifice Jesus made at the cross. He was a sacrifice without blemish. When we confess our sins, maybe daily, and ask for forgiveness, Jesus says, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12). So why do we keep remembering and thinking about “our sins”? It’s the devil. He will keep bringing them up to our minds to discourage us, hoping to get us off The Path. He’s a liar! Micah 7:19 says, our sins have been cast into the depths of the sea to be remembered no more. When these thoughts come, we need to use Jesus’ strategy, “It is written.” Use one of the verses mentioned here to resist the devil. When those thoughts come to mind, just repeat JESUS, JESUS, JESUS.
I remember an old gospel song that would be God’s answer to our repeated asking forgiveness for past sins, “What sins are you talking about? I don’t remember them anymore; From the Book of Life they’ve all been torn out, I don’t remember them anymore.” If you haven’t asked Jesus to cover your sins, do it today!
