“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7)
I wrote about “worry” last October but got a different thought about it recently. We all worry from time to time but we can’t let it become a way of life. That’s what the devil wants. We must know and believe the Word of God concerning worry and anxiety so we can move forward in God’s plan for us. Jesus told Satan three times in Matthew 4 when He was tempted that, “It is written!” When we’re tempted with worry, what do we do?
The apostle Paul told the Philippians, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6). Here’s the three-step plan: 1. Prayer 2. Supplication or petition like you would a court to rule for you 3. Thanksgiving. Pray to God, the Judge, petition Him to rule for you, and then thank Him for His ruling. And, like it says in the first verse above, “at the proper time”, He will help you. We have to believe and trust God and His Word. And, if we have to wait sometimes, we need to declare God’s Word to the devil as Jesus did, “IT IS WRITTEN!”
I read an encouraging thing recently relating to “waiting”. A man had to miss his favorite team’s football game but heard that they had won. As he watched the replay of the game, he was tempted to be troubled with some of his team’s mistakes and the successes of the opponent. But…he knew that his team had won the game so he didn’t WORRY. Hey, Jesus won for us at the cross so we do not have to worry. We may have to wait, change some things, but trust God to give us the win. Cast your cares on Him. We win!
