“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” (Ephesians 6:13)
The first line in the song, Jericho by Andrew Ripp, says, “I’ve been stacking up the years I spent trading punches with the enemy.” As I listened to this recently, it reminded me that, too many times, we try to “punch it out” with the enemy instead of using the weapons and support God has made available to us. The devil is always, “Seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8) which tells me that he can’t “devour” everyone; he’s looking for someone vulnerable. So what can we do to take advantage of God’s resources?
First, we must “Submit to God” (James 4:7). This is the first battle plan. Then, after we submit, this verse then says, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” I see two things happening when we submit to God: First, He gives us the “Armor of God” (Ephesians 6:11) and second, the backing of Heaven, “the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; (Luke 10:19). Then we can STAND facing the enemy and watch him flee. We won’t have to “trade punches” with him. He’ll realize he’ll have to retreat until a “more opportune time” like he did when facing Jesus in the wilderness, (Luke 4:13). *It is written!”
Then there are times when God will fight for us. In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat was facing a battle against the enemy armies which were more powerful. What did he do? He called God’s people together to fast and pray. In verse 15, God answered, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” The people trusted God and went out to face the enemy with the singers in front and God caused the enemy to slay each other. I wrote a similar article about this topic back in 2019. You can read it on my blog at: https://roadrevelations.org/2019/04/battle-plan. So, any time the enemy comes at you with a temptation, and he will, be prepared for the fight and use what God has given you. Victory in Jesus!
