“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
In school, the teacher gives an assignment and expects the students to complete it to move on to the next lesson. In sports, the coach gives drills in order to prepare the players to win the game. As kids, parents give chores to do to teach them to work and help the family. In God’s classroom, on His team or in His family, does He give assignments? Absolutely!
So, what’s your assignment? Do you know that you have one? Are you working to complete it? God has given each one of us special gifts to use to help us complete our assignment. “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” (1 Peter 4:10). We each have at least one Spiritual gift. “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,” (Romans 8:29). We are to use our gift to be more like Jesus. The Bible calls it, “from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18). We are transformed as we work on our assignments.
Today, I want us to think about our assignments. It could be as simple as being kind to someone, helping someone, praying for them or giving. Some are gifted to speak, some to teach, to sing, to volunteer or work at a job. To serve, to sacrifice, to parent, to be a friend. Our assignment can change from day to day but God’s always got something for us to do and He’s always with us. Isaiah prayed, “Here I am Lord, send me.” (Isaiah 6:8). Let’s get to work! The Bible warns us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22). The enemy will try to deceive us to not work on our assignment. Don’t listen to that!
If you’re not sure what your Spiritual gift is, go to this link and take the assessment: https://gifts.churchgrowth.org/spiritual-gifts-survey. Just as on a sports team, we are all gifted to benefit the team. Let’s work together on our assignment.
