Purpose

August 16, 2025August 16, 2025

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16).

God created everything for His purpose. Think about these things: What’s the purpose of an ant, a blade of grass, a raindrop, a snow flake, fruit, etc. AND, God created us! What purpose does He have for us? “For those called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28). We each have a purpose on this earth. God told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5). We probably are not called for the purpose Jeremiah was but I don’t think God created us just to go do whatever we wanted. He has a purpose for us. The devil has a purpose for us too! There’s one way to fulfill God’s purpose, JESUS! Here are some Biblical purposes for us:
“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8).
“Each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them,
(1 Corinthians 7:17).
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:2).
“In humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (Philippines 2:4).
“Press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippines 3:14).
“Fix your thoughts on Jesus.” (Hebrews 3:1).
“Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” (Hebrews 12:1).
“Declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9).
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, (1 Peter 4:10).

Can we put a checkmark next to these things? I know, not all the time, but we’re “pressing toward the goal”. I’ve mentioned it before but I think it’s important to know what our Spiritual Gifts are. As Christians, we all have at least one. Use this link to do an assessment: https://giftstest.com. We need to be serious about God’s purpose for us and, it’s never too late.
