Confidence in a Storm

January 18, 2026January 18, 2026

When the apostle Paul was caught in a terrible storm, in Acts 27, he relied on three principles of God to get him through. We can benefit from these too.

God’s presence. God is with you. God sent an angel to Paul to let him know that He saw him and knew what he was going through. We have to believe that, in our storms, we may not be able to see God, but He sees us and is with us. “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). God is there.

God’s purpose. God has a plan for your life. The angel told Paul that he had to stand trial before Caesar and God was going to make sure he did. And, all those on the ship with Paul would be saved too! It’s good to hang out with people who God has a plan for. “‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.” (Acts 27:24). You are part of God’s plan. Do you know what it is? You can accept it or go off on your own. God won’t force you to follow His plan. Don’t focus on the storm but say, “God, I want to follow Your plan for me.”

God’s promise. God’s promises are true. He keeps all His promises. Storms can’t hide us from God, can’t change God’s purpose for us or destroy us as children of God. “So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.” (V. 25). God might have told them, “You may lose the cargo, the tackle and the ship. You may even get wet but you’re going to make it because I promised.”

An old saying goes, “God said it, I believe it and that settles it!” I heard a preacher say once, “You are either going into a storm, in one, or coming out of one.” Storms and problems are going to happen in our lives. So, be in God’s presence, live His purpose and believe His promises. If you’re not sure what Spiritual gifts God has given you, take this 66 question test: https://giftstest.com/
