“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9).
God’s Word says He is always with us wherever we go. He also says that, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). But, as we all know, God doesn’t give us the complete plans He has for us at the beginning. No, it’s a journey and He asks us to follow Him. The disciples didn’t know where they were going when Jesus said, “Come, follow Me.” (Matthew 4:19). But they followed. Jesus says to us, “Follow Me and I’ll take you forward to the plan I have for you.” He gives us steps for our journey but not the complete map. What if, while using GPS to get us somewhere, the voice spouted off every direction and turn in one sentence? We’d think, “No, just tell me each turn one step at a time!”
The Bible also tells us about how God is a light for us on the Path of Life, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105). I recently read that this is a lamp and a light for our next step and not a powerful light that shines all the way to our destination. This Light guides us one step at a time.
God has a plan for each one of us and He has gifted us to accomplish His plan. However, on our journey, we’re going to have some trouble, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). But we have to remember the verse above that He is with us wherever we go and He’ll take care of us.
There are three things that we need to do on this Life Journey: 1. Trust God. He knows the way. 2. Have faith. He will lead us according to His plan and support us on the way. 3. Stay on the Path. Don’t wander, don’t take an interesting exit or go our own way. Though it may seem slow at times, just take it…one step at a time.
