Your Light

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Remember this children’s song, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”? Something to think about today: Is your light shining or is something covering it up? The other day at the store, I noticed three people that I passed were looking at me. I thought, “Why are they looking at me? Is my hair messed up or something?” Then I thought, “Maybe my light is shining.” What are people seeing in us in our daily lives in public, at work, at home, at a ballgame, online? Don’t let anything cover God’s light up. One thing I pray frequently when going into a store is, “Lord, remind me that I’m a representative of the Most High God.” And then I need to show it. I heard it said once, “You won’t have to go out of your way to find someone to help, if you’ll watch, God will place someone in your way.” Pay attention. There are people out there who need their shopping cart put back, a door opened for them, need something off the top shelf, who need a ride, help with something or just a smile. We can shine by doing these things and many more.  “Your love has given me much joy and comfort . . . for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.” (Philemon 1:7) (NLT). We can show God’s love to other people if we’ll try. And, it will not only be good for others but God will be smiling down on us too. We should always be trying to please God with everything we think, say, do, feel and show. Turn up your light, don’t let your power get low and SHINE! Let others see Jesus in us!
