In Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat and his army were up against a much larger enemy. So Jehoshaphat prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” (v. 12) Then the prophet Jahaziel said, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (v. 15). God might have said, , “Now you’re talking, watch this.” Jehoshaphat and the army went to the battle line and found the enemy all dead! God had provided. And, His people had three days of spoils to gather!
So, here is Moses and the Israelites facing a road block at the Red Sea. They couldn’t go forward and Pharaoh’s army was behind them so they couldn’t go back. But Moses declared, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today.” (Exodus 14:13). Moses was speaking in faith. Then God spoke to Moses, “Why are the people crying to me?” (v. 15). Then God gave Moses some instructions: “lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and, (v.16)…in other words, Watch this!” The sea parted and God’s people went across on dry ground. And, another “Watch this!”, when Pharaoh’s army followed, the sea came back together and drowned them all.
Then, as Easter is approaching, we have the story of The Tomb. Jesus told the Pharisees, “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:40). Only three days. As we know, on the third day, God may have said, “Watch this!” I remember kids in Sunday School singing the old hymn, “Up From the Grave He Arose”, and when the chorus came, the kids would all jump up and sing loudly, “Up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph o’er His foes.” It was exciting.
God is still doing miraculous things. Pray to Him and see how He says, “Watch this!”
