Re-Revelation – Start New This Year
This is a re-post of something I wrote about several years ago that God again brought to my mind. It’s still relevant today.
Some of us were going to church early on Sunday evenings to pray and I was walking around in the prayer room praying. I was thanking God for my status in life; for my education, training, job, and the things I’d accomplished. I was pretty proud of what I’d done and was thanking God for His part in my life. I was feeling pretty good. God replies, “Yes, you’ve done pretty well for yourself but that’s not exactly the way I would have done it.” God’s response hit me hard and I realized I had spent most of my efforts on education, employment goals, home building, and other tasks that define what the world sees as success. I immeditely dropped to my knees before God and repented saying,”Father, I’m sorry for building my life the way I thought it should be. I now fully surrender to you and ask you to break me and re-make me the way you intended even before I was born.” “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; ” (Jeremiah 1:5).
When I asked to be broken before God, in my spirit I saw myself being instantly zapped into a pile of grey/brown dust. God was standing beside the pile with a bottle of oil. He pours the oil onto the pile of dust and begins forming and shaping the dust into His image. That’s the way He wants to do it. “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” (Psalms 51:17). The vision really made an impact on me and I was reminded of this again this morning. We may feel like we’ve done pretty good for ourselves OR we may have made a mess of our lives. Either way, we need to give ourselves to God, submit to Him or re-submit, and let ourselves be broken down to dust so God can rebuild us and fix us into the image He has for us and has had from the beginning. Do you want to be fixed for the coming year? Well, you’ve got to allow yourself to be totally dismantled, broken apart, and re-assembled into something brand new. You’ve got to yield to the Master Builder and let Him do His work. He makes masterpieces!
A Different Look At Christmas
From The Beginning. God began by creating a perfect world in the Garden of Eden and created a man and woman to begin the perfect process blessing them and telling them to, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and have dominion over it.” (Genesis 1:28 paraphrased). But that old snake, Satan, came in and tricked them into letting his influence into that perfect environment and things went bad from there. It got so bad that God was grieved and sorry He had created man, (Genesis 6:6), but, “Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:8).
So God decided to try again. He wiped out all the evil people and everything on earth with the flood except Noah and his family and He blessed them and told them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth.” (Genesis 9:1)… again. One of Noah’s sons, Shem, was good and did this but the other two, Ham and Japheth disregarded God’s plan and went off on their own. Evil began to fill the earth…again. God had told Noah He would not destroy the earth again so He had to come up with another plan.
This plan was not to destroy evil again but to show the people on earth how to take care of their sins, be blessed, live for God, and reserve a place for them in Heaven. And the only way to do this was for God himself to come to earth, “Immanuel – God with us”, (Matthew 1:23). He would come, live a perfect life, teach the people and, at the end, be killed taking the sins of everyone on Himself to the cross. This way, He would give the people the choice of living for Satan and all that comes with that or living for God and receiving His blessing. But to suddenly appear on earth as a man wouldn’t work so God came as a baby, baby Jesus. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11). A Saviour.
That plan is still in effect today and is working for God’s people. But, it’s our choice. We celebrate Jesus’ birth this week; let’s remember why we do it and what it really means. If you haven’t made that choice…do it today. Merry CHRISTmas!
Our Choice
We are all created in the image of God and He wants us to be like Him in every way. However, there is evil in the world we live in and our God does not force us to be like Himself, He gave us a free will to choose between evil and good. “I call on heaven and earth as witnesses today that I have offered you life or death, blessings or curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants will live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19 – God’s Word Translation). The choice is ours.
Think about these verses:
1 John 4:4, “..greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” – if you allow Him to be.
Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper.” – unless you let it.
John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” – if we take it.
Luke 10:19, “Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy:” – if you take that authority.
1 John 5:1, “Everyone who has faith that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God.” – if we claim Him.
Ephesians 3:20, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” – if we use that power.
Mark 9:23, “ all things are possible to him that believes.” – if we believe it.
James 4:7, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – if we say, “It is written!”
Mark 11:23, “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.” – if we don’t doubt, do believe, and say so.
Mark 16:18, “Those who believe…they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” – if we believe we’re one of those.
1 Peter 2:24, “by his wounds you have been healed.” – if we believe and receive it.
Our choice.
Gods Protected Place
Many people are very concerned about the direction in which our country seems to be going. Freedoms that are guaranteed by our Constitution are being taken away, especially our religious freedoms. Things look pretty bad in America. But let’s not forget, our Pledge of Allegiance says, “One nation, UNDER GOD…”, we were founded as a nation under God. We, as God’s people, have available to us certain benefits promised by God IF we do our part. Over the next few posts, we are going to look at God’s historical favor on His people and be encouraged because, “I am the LORD, I do not change.” (Malachi 3:6).Jacob and his family went to live in Egypt because of the favor of God through His servant Joseph, (beginning in Genesis 37). Pharaoh gave them the Land of Goshen to live in. That was God’s favor but there was more to it. When the next Pharaoh, the government, began mistreating God’s people, God began sending plagues on Egypt to force Pharaoh to “Let My people go.” Many bad things happened to the country of Egypt but, in the land of Goshen, God’s people were protected.
Swarms of flies: “But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.” (Exodus 8:22). Darkness: “No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.” (Exodus 10:23). Death of the firstborn: “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.” (Exodus 12:13). It was the same with the plagues of hail, the death of animals, and locusts; none of it bothered God’s people who lived in His protected place.
The point is, IF we, as God’s people, will, “.. listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees,” (Exodus 15:26), then we will be able to live in “God’s Protected Place”, the United States of America.
