I remembered a song recently from a few years ago sung by the Gaither Vocal Band called, “Little Is Much When God Is In It”. It started me thinking, (another God-lesson reminder). So much can be done and accomplished when we let God into our situation.
I recalled a story from Kenneth Copeland years ago where he was the pilot for Oral Roberts as he flew around the country preaching. In one large crusade, there was an “invalid room” set aside for people who needed healing and Kenneth, as a student of Oral Roberts, was to go in and prepare the people for Reverend Roberts to come pray for them. He came in but directed Brother Copeland to pray for a woman who was close to death on a stretcher. Kenneth felt unprepared but, on Brother Robert’s lead, he laid hands on the woman and prayed. But nothing happened. Then, God spoke to him and told him to ask the woman to do something that she couldn’t do before. It sounded crazy but he was obedient and asked her to do it. Slowly, she raised her right hand and, as she did, healing began to come into her body and eventually she got up and walked! Little was much because God was in it.
So, I began to recall instances from the Bible where people did something, seemingly insignificant, that brought on miracles.
The woman with the “issue of blood”, (Mark 5:25-34), said, “If I could just touch the hem of his garment, I shall be whole.” (v. 28). Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.” (v. 34).
The fish and loaves, (John 6:1-14). Jesus, said, “You feed the people.” Phillip said, “All we have is five loaves and two fish!” Afterward, “they filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves,” (v. 13).
Moses’ staff and hand, (Exodus 14). The Israelites were trapped between the Egyptian army and the Red Sea. What were they going to do? God told Moses, “Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.” (v. 16).
David’s sling and stone, (1 Samuel 17). “Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead.” (v. 49).
Mustard seed, (Matthew 13:31-32). “Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree,” (v. 32).
A touch, a fish dinner, a staff, a stone and a seed. All little things in the eyes of the unbelieving. But, by faith and obedience, little is much when God is in it! What do you have?
