Three Ways God Handles Storms in Your Life

Many of you are going through a storm right now. Sickness, addictions, a relationship, financial, job related, fallout from a bad decision, you can name it. I’ve heard it said that we will always be in a trial, going into one or coming out of one. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). So we need to be ready for trouble, a trial, a storm. Since we all experience them, let’s look at three ways God works in our storm.

One – He will go through the storm with you. “I am with you always,” (Matthew 28:20), “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). God said He would be with us always, even in the storm, and He knows what He’s doing so we must trust Him to go through it with us. “Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, thou art with me,” (Psalm 23:4).

Two – He will keep you safe until it passes. “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;” (Psalm 91:4). Just like a mother hen protects her chicks in dangerous times. He protected Moses from His powerful glory so He will protect us from the enemy’s harm. “When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.” (Exodus 33:22). Hang on, God is sheltering you.

Three – He will tell it to stop. “And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39). There will be times when Jesus will, at your request, just tell your storm to stop. But we have to remember He will choose which option He will use. We can’t demand He do what we ask. Maybe God choosing to have you go through the storm is for your strengthening or for a purpose He has planned for you in the future. (See the story of Joseph beginning in Genesis 37.)

In your storm, thank God for being there with you, for keeping you safe, and for the future outcome. You will make it if you trust and don’t give up!

“So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” (Ephesians 4:14).

I was waiting at a traffic light on a four-lane highway on the way home from work recently and saw a butterfly trying to cross the highway just above the vehicles. As it flew, the wind of the moving traffic, even slow moving ones, caused so much turbulence that it altered the course of the butterfly drastically. So much so that it could not continue on its desired path; even being turned around so as to fly in the opposite direction. It made me think of the above verse and how we can be tossed by the winds and seas of this world. That poor butterfly was at the mercy of the turbulence on the path it was trying to fly. So what’s the solution and how does it apply to us?

I thought, if that butterfly was just ten feet higher, it would not be affected by the wind. Higher… When there is a flood, where are you supposed to go? To higher ground. When there is bad weather near the ground, where does an airplane go? Above the clouds, higher, where the sky is clear and the sun is shining. Are you getting the understanding? Where did Moses go to meet God? On the mountain. So where should we look and go when we are in the turbulence of life? “He who dwells in the secret place of the MOST HIGH…” (Psalms 91:1).

If you’re in a place of turbulence now and life on earth is tossing you all over, turn your eyes upon Jesus; look up, begin praising Him, and rise above the storm. Now, I will say that you probably won’t get up above the storm right away but God is your refuge, and He will be with you, (Psalm 23:4). You may even be on the wrong path and He might have you to turn around. Hold on to His steady hand and let Him lead you up and out of the mess. He will do it. Let’s go! The Journey of Psalm 23

I have been reminded of the 23rd Psalm on several occasions lately and wrote about it HERE and HERE a few weeks ago. There are many good lessons to be found in this passage and another aspect was shown to me recently.

I noticed that the whole passage can be seen as a journey, beginning in the early years and ending when we are old. Let’s look at this journey today. “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1). A baby is helpless; others must meet every need on the first leg of this journey. The Shepherd has to lead the child to food and water, “green pastures and still waters” (Psalm 23:2) and keep it safe along the way. And as with all good parents, the Good Shepherd “leadeth me in the paths of righteousness”, (Psalm 23:3), we are led, then later directed, down the right paths on this journey.

However, sometimes we must go through troubled times, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,” (Psalm 23:4). But we are not to be afraid because He is with us on this part of the journey; He will protect us. And at the end of the dark valley, there is a light. When we emerge from the darkness we find that the Shepherd has prepared a banquet and we are the guest of honor! As we step into this leg of the journey we notice all our enemies who were harassing us in the dark valley are now forced to watch us being honored and there’s nothing they can do about it. “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:” (Psalm 23:5). We are blessed! (“Our cup runneth over.)

As we leave the banquet and continue on our journey, we have some traveling companions, “Surely Goodness and Mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6). We have been traveling with the Master and now He continues to bless us. But where are we going? Where is our final destination? “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6). We began this journey depending on the Shepherd for everything, continued to receive what we needed as we traveled, and end up living in His house for eternity. Where are you on this journey?

Gods Protected Place

Many people are very concerned about the direction in which our country seems to be going. Freedoms that are guaranteed by our Constitution are being taken away, especially our religious freedoms. Things look pretty bad in America. But let’s not forget, our Pledge of Allegiance says, “One nation, UNDER GOD…”, we were founded as a nation under God. We, as God’s people, have available to us certain benefits promised by God IF we do our part. Over the next few posts, we are going to look at God’s historical favor on His people and be encouraged because, “I am the LORD, I do not change.” (Malachi 3:6).Jacob and his family went to live in Egypt because of the favor of God through His servant Joseph, (beginning in Genesis 37). Pharaoh gave them the Land of Goshen to live in. That was God’s favor but there was more to it. When the next Pharaoh, the government, began mistreating God’s people, God began sending plagues on Egypt to force Pharaoh to “Let My people go.” Many bad things happened to the country of Egypt but, in the land of Goshen, God’s people were protected.

Swarms of flies: “But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.” (Exodus 8:22). Darkness: “No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.” (Exodus 10:23). Death of the firstborn: “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.” (Exodus 12:13). It was the same with the plagues of hail, the death of animals, and locusts; none of it bothered God’s people who lived in His protected place.

The point is, IF we, as God’s people, will, “.. listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees,” (Exodus 15:26), then we will be able to live in “God’s Protected Place”, the United States of America.

Re-revelation, Praise Beside The Path

I had the privilege of speaking at the monthly Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Stevens Church of God this morning and I spoke on visions. As God gives me these revelations almost daily, He sometimes gives me a full video in my mind and I shared three of these with the men this morning.
