“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. As believers, we all want faith and, I would hope, as much of it as we can get. How do we get faith? Romans 12:3 says, “as God has allotted to each a measure of faith” (NASB). So it seems we all have some faith. It took faith for us to be saved; we had to believe with our heart and confess with our mouth what Jesus said was true. So, if we want more faith, how do we build it?
The apostle Paul tells us, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17. I have found that faith does come by hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing…God’s Word. So how much are we hearing the Word each week? If you’re a regular Sunday church-goer, 40% of Americans say they do, you hear the Word once a week. If you go on Sunday night and Wednesday, maybe you get the Word three time a week. Is that enough? If you do a daily devotion you get more Word and it helps your faith to grow.
Faith comes by hearing and that can even be your own voice or the voices of those around you. Are you speaking faith words daily? Are you hanging around people who are speaking faith-filled words? Or are you hearing, “You can’t do that.”, “You’ll never make it.”, “That’s impossible.”, “I’m fat, ugly and will never do anything.”Don’t waste your time man, that’s outta your league.”. Are those the words your hearing? No wonder your faith is weak! You need to hear, (out of your own mouth), All things are possible, I am a king and a priest, I can do all things, I’ve been made the righteousness of God, I am blessed coming in and going out, I’m the head and not the tail, By His stripes I am healed, I’m more than a conquorer, He is my fortress, my refuge, and my God and I’m His child. Wow, don’t you feel better already? That’s the way to build your faith. Listen to as much Bible-based preaching as you can and preach to yourself daily! What do you think?
