“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman”. (Genesis 3:4)
The devil is cunning and he knows our weaknesses. He will use every deception he can to lead us into sin. He was saying to Eve in the verse above, “Aw, it’s not that bad, go ahead and take a little bite.” A little bit won’t hurt, There’s only a couple cuss words in the movie, One little drink/hit/puff will be OK. Do you get the understanding?
Something happened recently that reminded me of this situation. I was preparing a spot in my back yard for a new walkway. It needed to be level but there were a few exposed rocks that “might” have been a problem. I thought, “Oh, just leave them, they’re really small.” But then I decided to go ahead and remove them since they were small and it wouldn’t take much work. But when I put my heavy pry bar under the “little” rock, it wouldn’t move. I had to push and push to get leverage and finally I was able to loosen the “little” rock which turned out to be a large, 100 lb. stone! The exposed part above ground was small but what was underneath was huge! God spoke to me and reminded me, “That’s how sin is!” You think it’s small and won’t do any harm but, if you let it go or accept it, what’s underneath can kill you. “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it” (Prov 22:3).
So, our lesson for today is: Watch out for the, seemingly, small things. God will warn you if you have a relationship with Him and if you ask Him about it. If you feel uncertainty about something, don’t go there! Change the channel, look the other way, hold your tongue, don’t do it! And, if you listen to His “still, small voice” (1 Kings 19:12)…“He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases”. (Psalm 91:3). #thinkaboutit
