I have attended several basketball games lately from youth to high school to watching games on TV and I’ve been reminded how passionate people are for their teams. Wherever you go you see fans wearing their team’s colors and logos on jerseys, hats, coats, and even painted on their skin. You see it on their vehicles, in their yards, on their coffee cups and on their Facebook profiles. We love our teams and we’re not ashamed to show it! The Super Bowl is coming up tomorrow and people are praising their team and proclaiming their support. It’s good to believe in something, be passionate for the cause, and wear the uniform for all to see. So…what’s in your closet, on your car or on your profile?
There’s nothing wrong with supporting your favorite team but I guess you’ve figured out where I’m going with this already. This is a friendly reminder to us ALL to keep things in the right perspective and balance. Consider this: “Anyone who loves his father or mother… his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;” (Matthew 10:37). “You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act,“ (Matthew 7:16). “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33).
As I look in my closet, I find several school, college, business, software, Greatest Dad, and blood bank shirts and hats. But where is my JESUS JERSEY? I cheer for Him at church but do I show the same passioin as I do at the ball game? But let’s not forget, “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7). There we go with that fruit again. No matter what you’re wearing, what you’re full of on the inside, what you’re passionate about will come out and be evident to those who see you. God wants to bless His children but He wants to be number 1 in your life. Keep this in mind wherever you are and put on your Jesus jersey.
