Everyone has a past. Some of it’s good, some of it’s not so good. Some of our past, we’re proud of and don’t mind sharing but some of it we don’t even want to think about much less tell anybody. But Jesus knows it all. He knows everything we’ve done and everything we will do. He’s with us all the time.
I read something in my devotional, The Word For You Today, that brought an image to my mind. BTW, if you’re interested in a great daily devotional with articles written by many of the top pastors and Christian leaders of our day, I highly recommend this one. You can find more HERE. Anyway, the devotional said about our past, “You can’t go back, but He can.” Here’s what I saw:
A man sitting talking to Jesus. “Wow Jesus, I’ve done some stupid things in my life.” Jesus says, “I know, I’ve been with you all along.” “I wish I could go back and change it all.” Jesus, looks up like He’s thinking, then says, “I could tell you this, but I want to show you, wait right here.” Jesus gets up, has something that looks like a slate in His hand and starts to walk away but then disappears! He goes back into yesterday, looks at the slate, which belongs to the guy, and it has some sin on it. He wipes it clean! Then He goes into last week, last month, last year, all the way to the beginning of the guy’s past and at each stop, He wipes away all the sins of the man. Then, He returns to the present and sits down again beside the guy. “Where did you go, Jesus?” “You can’t go back to your past but I can, so I went back and collected all your sins and wrote them on this slate.” “Oh no, Jesus, You have all my sins on there?” “Let me show you.” Jesus holds out the slate, facing Himself, then slowly turns it around so the man can see. “Jesus, there’s nothing on there, what happened to the sins of my past?” “Son, I went back through your past and wiped away every sin of yours.” “That’s what my blood on the cross did for you, are you with Me?” “Oh Jesus, thank You!” A tearful embrace came next.
You have a past. Jesus knows all about it and He wants to wipe away all your sin. Let Him! “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
