“Fear not, believe only.”  Jesus spoke these words to the synagogue ruler Jairus when messengers brought news of his daughter’s death, Mark 5:36.  He’s saying the same thing to us now.  During this time of economic distress, many of us are in a position to be fearful; it’s hard to avoid.  Maybe your financial situation is in jeopardy because of cutbacks at work, you or a loved one is sick in their body, or a relationship is crumbling.  “In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.  Jesus is saying, “Don’t be afraid!”

I am the interim director of a federally-funded workforce development facility whose funding is running out before the end of the fiscal year; an opportunity to fear.  As a leader, I’ve let everyone know I depend on God and believe He’s in control.  But as people look to me for leadership, if I let them see me fearful, it looks bad on God.  You know what I mean?  Fear not, believe only!  Peter tells us, “Cast your care on Him for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.  If you turn over your anxiety to someone who can take care of it, someone you trust, you don’t need to worry.  Fear not, believe only!

If you’re in a situation that seems impossible, remember this: “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.” Psalm 23:4.  What appears to be dark and scary is only a shadow and the all-powerful God is walking with you.  Fear not!  And, keep walking.  You and God will come out of it.
