We have many “things” in our lives, some of us more than others. We have things that help us do life. We have things that make it easier. We have things that we don’t really need but things that we want. There may be things in our lives that are idols that we’ve put before God. Then, there are things in our lives that we didn’t ask for and don’t want, things that, maybe, the enemy has thrown onto our path. Or things that come with bad decisions we’ve made. God showed me two different ways that “things” appear in our lives and how we should deal with them.
First, in Matthew chapter 6, Jesus is telling the people not to worry about “things” like what we eat, drink or wear, things that God already knows that we need. So, what’s the answer? “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 NIV). Seek God first. Thank Him, praise Him, worship Him and set aside all the things you want and trust God to supply your need and then you may see some of the things you want.
Second. There are things that come into our lives that we do not want: sickness, death of a loved one, financial trouble, results of bad decisions, people who treat you badly at work or school, you get fired from your job or a crises happens in your home. These “things” can be devastating and make you feel like you want to quit. God, where are you?!? In these times, and you may be there now, we have to remember, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9). If we are saved and love God, He has a plan. “And we know that for those who love God all THINGS work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 ESV). We can’t see the future but we have to believe and have faith that God is at work and He will get us through. Keep believing the Word, and trusting God to do what He said He would do. And while you wait, keep thanking and praising Him.
