“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1)
Last year, I wrote about the idea of looking up and wanted to share some more things God has shown me about this idea. Many times in scripture we see the idea of “looking up”. Jesus looked up when He prayed over the fish and loaves. At the transfiguration, the disciples fell to the ground but Jesus told them to “look up” and they saw only Him. I’m thinking we need to “look up” more and not down or around as we too often do.
At the Pool of Bethesda, in John 5, when the crippled man needed healing, he was always looking to the water to heal him. When Jesus showed up and spoke to him, his focus turned from the water to Jesus. He looked up from where he was laying to Jesus and he was healed.
During a Monday night prayer at church, I was walking around the sanctuary praying but was looking down at where I was going. I heard, “Look up.” I did and a feeling of the presence of God surrounded me. In my Spirit I heard, “I’ll show you the way to go so you won’t trip.” Of course we have to be aware of our surroundings because the devil is always trying to trip us up but looking to God for direction is the way to go. Look up.
I’m reminded of the old song that says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace”. I can see someone with trouble all around but they “look up” to the face of Jesus and are delivered.
One more “look up” happening is going to be on the Last Day. “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28). When that day comes, we want to be able to “look up” in the clouds and see our Savior who will be welcoming us up to be with Him. Look up!
