“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up;” (James 5:15).
Expect
The prayer of faith; what does that mean? It says in Hebrews 11 that, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The phrase “hoped for” in the Greek does not mean to wish for like we think today but it means to expect; to believe we receive. So, to pray in faith means we must believe that whatever we’ve asked for will come to pass. “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” (Matthew 21:22).
Believe, based on the Word of God
Our faith, hope, and expectation must be based on the Word of God. If I believe someone’s going to pay my bills but they haven’t TOLD me they would, my believing won’t do me any good; my bills won’t get paid! But if the person told me they would pay my bills and they’re trustworthy, my believing will be rewarded. God is trustworthy.
Speak
Speak to your mountain. Jesus said it. Don’t beg God to move your mountain, speak to it yourself! “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall SAY unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he SAITH shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he SAITH.” (Mark 11:23). The Holy Spirit in us gives us the authority to speak faith-filled words and get results.
Receive
The word “receive” is defined as: To take as with the hand, to lay hold of, to make one’s own. The idea here is not to stand there with our hand out waiting to receive but to take it, be pro-active, aggressive. “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” (1 John 5:14-15). We have confidence in God, we know He hears us, we believe, and we receive. It takes practice and we mess up sometimes but we must keep at it. Our faith can and will be increased as we pray.
