“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
The name of the Lord. That is a powerful name and we can use it to ward off the enemy but The Name can also be a place of refuge and safety that we can run into when needed. If we’re born again Christians, we’ve been given access to the “The Name” and the safe places we can go to. In Genesis 11, the people had, “one language and common speech”, (v. 1), so they decided to build a tower, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves;” (v. 4). They wanted to build their tower on their own without the help of their God. It didn’t work out as God confused their language and scattered them. Their tower was a man-made tower not infused with the Name of the Lord. It would provide little protection.
Do we have a strong Tower of protection that we can run into when under attack? I got a vision of Psalm 91 once that was comforting. Verse one says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” What God showed me related to the “secret place”. I saw this strong tower but when I approached, the enemy was there at the front door to prevent me from going in. But…as a child of God, I had been made aware of a secret entrance around back that the enemy didn’t know about. Only God’s people knew of this secret entrance. So I go and enter, “the secret place of the Most High” and was safe. “For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.” (Psalms 61:3). We’re on God’s team; we’re going to be attacked. Of course we have the Armor of God, (Ephesians 6:10-18), to use especially the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, (v. 17) when attacked. But it’s comforting to know we have a Strong Tower to run into for protection and refreshing. So, when you’re attacked, pull out your Sword to do battle or run into your tower and let God fight for you. He never loses.
