I was driving the other day and the song by Casting Crowns, “Voice of Truth”, came on and, as usual, God gave me an image and a lesson. In our lives, especially now, we may have many “voices” clamoring to get our attention, to get us to listen to them. Which one are we going to listen to? Which one are we going to give permission to speak?
The image I got was of a press conference and the speaker opens it up for questions. Then, we’ve all seen it before, you have everyone in the press corps hollering out their question, raising their hands, trying to be recognized. The speaker will point to someone and they get to speak and be heard. Do you get the picture? Do we have voices vying for our attention so they can give us their truth? Sure we do. Voices of family and friends, the media, magazine stories, preachers, yes, sometimes even preachers. And they’re all trying to tell us what to do. Who are we going to listen to?
Now, back to the song:
“But the voice of truth tells me a different story.
The voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
The voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me,
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth.”
Who is the Voice of Truth? God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. They speak to us in prayer, through the Bible, in nature, through trusted people and sometimes even in a song. With all the voices hollering at us, let’s point, in the crowd, to Jesus and hear what He has to say. And then do it! He is the Voice of Truth!
