Under The Surface

My wife and I are spending a few days at the beach in Isle of Palms South Carolina with our two youngest boys and it’s been a good time to get away and reflect on life.  As I sat on the balcony this morning doing my devotion and spending some time with the Lord, I looked out over the ocean and was amazed once again at the beauty and simplicity of it.  Rolling ripples in the water, consistant color, and the peaceful sound.  Then I suddenly realized that, under the surface, there is a whole other world.  In this world there are billions of life forms from microscopic to gigantic, awesome beauty, daily living and dying, all God’s creation…and it’s hidden from my sight.  But God knows they’re there and He takes care of them just as He does me.

It reminds me that God is in control.  It also reminds me that I should have nothing to worry about in this creation because my God made me and He loves me.  “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26.  And slso that He has given us dominion over all these other creatures because we are made in God’s likeness: “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26.  There’s always more to the picture than we can see and God’s plan for His creation is awesome.  “Under the surface” God is working and He knows what He is doing.  Trust Him today to take care of your needs and do some good for those around you whether it be fish or people.
