The Dark Room

April 25, 2026April 25, 2026

“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3)

As I awoke recently, I had a vision of me sitting on a couch in a dark room. I began thinking about this and what it could mean. We have all been in dark rooms before whether physically or emotionally, right? Well, as I sat there in this dark room, I felt frightened. I didn’t know where I was and how to get out. But then, I got a wonderful feeling of peace all around me. As I wondered about this feeling, I felt a hand pat me on my left leg. “I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.“ (Isaiah 41:10b). I looked up and saw, in the dark, the shining, smiling face of Jesus! He was nodding His head and whispered, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here with you.” “I will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). That feeling of fear that had been on me was gone! And this awesome feeling of love, peace, protection and direction surrounded me. I knew I had nothing to fear.

This vision reminded me of another one I had years ago. In this vision, I was in a “dark room” and couldn’t see how to get out. I looked around but couldn’t see any exit. It was frightening.  I prayed, “God, help me!” Then, across the room, I noticed a dim light. As I moved closer toward that light, it became larger and brighter. Then, I saw that the light was Jesus! “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8a). He was holding His right hand out inviting me to follow Him out of the darkness. “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12).

One more realization about light in a “dark room” is when, at a basketball game, they introduce the players. The visiting players are introduced first then; the lights go out as they introduce the home team with a spotlight on each player. Then, suddenly, the lights come back on and, “Let the game begin.”

So, when you’re in that “dark room”, remember God’s advice to us today and every day, DON’T WORRY! If we’ll be patient, we’ll hear the words, “Let there be light!”
